Yang Shuhua · Underglaze‑Red Cypress Porcelain Vase

Description

This vase is an original hand-painted work by Master Yang Shuhua, created in the autumn of the Jiachen Year (2024). Underglaze Red is one of Jingdezhen’s four great traditional porcelains. It uses copper as a coloring agent, fired in a high-temperature reduction atmosphere. The firing window is extremely narrow; a slight miscalculation results in blackening or volatilization, earning it the title “One Treasure in a Thousand Kilns.” This vase features gnarled ancient trees painted in underglaze red. The red and white contrast beautifully, with a deep, rich color—a perfect union of kiln luck and masterful craftsmanship. The vase is inscribed with “Painted by Shuhua, Autumn of Jiachen”, accompanied by the artist‘s red seal.

Measuring 33cm high, 26cm in max diameter, 14cm in rim diameter, and 15.5cm in base diameter. With its massive and full profile, this vase is an exceptional statement piece, ideal for a spacious living room, corporate reception hall, or a seasoned collector’s cabinet. Master Yang‘s works are held in Zhongnanhai’s Ziguangge Pavilion, the Chinese National Museum of Arts and Crafts, and the Great Hall of the People.
